I Know The End

InkJet Image Transfers

Onto Copper

~ 8 × 10 in.

Originally motivated by the feeling of being suspended in a life that no longer feels expansive and the growing desire for a change of sorts, I Know the End is an attempt to give physical form to stagnation and the quiet buildup of unrest. The work exists in multiple states of waiting, repetition, and a persistent longing for something different.

Before transferring the images, each copper plate was artificially weathered by hand. Because this surface aging was forced rather than naturally earned, it reflects the constructed and self-inflicted nature that stagnation can take on. It mirrors the way stagnation can feel like it is eroding at you, even when it is driven by your own internal pressures. Transferring the images onto the weathered copper introduces time, decay, and transformation directly into the physical surface of the work. The copper stains, oxidizes, and changes unpredictably, echoing how this yearning alters the mind over time, leading up to a shift.

One copper panel remains completely clean, free of any weathering or residue. This clean surface reflects the moment of a major life change, where clarity emerges after a long cycle of stagnation. Unlike the other panels, it holds no buildup or distortion, creating a sharp contrast between accumulation and renewal rather than suggesting erasure.

The imperfect nature of the image transfer process creates breaks, losses, and distortions within the images themselves, allowing the copper to interrupt what is seen. These disruptions reinforce a sense of instability and a loss of completion and control.

I Know the End reflects the tension of being locked in place while craving a life that feels different. Inviting viewers to consider how long a state of waiting can last before the urge to break it becomes unavoidable.
